Marks & Spencer PLC, the British retailer that acquired the Brooks Bros. specialty store chain in the United States in May, said it had agreed to buy U.S.-based Kings Super Markets Inc. for $108 million. The Kings acquisition, together with a recently signed agreement with Toronto-based retailer and developer Campeau Corp., will enable Marks & Spencer to build a significant food retailing operation in the United States, said Lord Rayner, the British retailer’s chairman. Based in New Jersey, Kings operates 16 supermarkets and had pretax a profit of $4.9 million on sales of $257.7 million in the fiscal year ended June 30.
