Inga Benedict outsprinted her competitors, and Gavin O’Grady won a tactical race, winning the second of three qualifying races in the Olympic Road Cycling Trials at Spokane, Wash.
Benedict has earned 40 points for her victories in the first two races. Her nearest competitors are Sally Zack of Boulder, Colo., who has 25 points; Katrin Tobin of Palo Alto, Calif., who has 24; and Phyliss Hines of Atlanta, 22.
In men’s and women’s competition, the top two point-getters make the team, and the third road racer will be chosen by coaches.
