Meese ‘Made a Difference’

I don’t agree with McDowell’s gratuitous assessment of Meese’s tenure as our esteemed attorney general.
His claim that if it hadn’t been for Meese, we would never have known the details of the Iran arms fiasco is full of smoke. He claims Meese demanded a full and robust investigation of the sordid affair, despite the possibility of embarrassing the Administration. Never mind the fact that he gave Ollie North and pals the opportunity to destroy much of the evidence, alerted all the other crooks so they could cover their tracks, and assigned civil attorneys to investigate the arms sales. Then he tried to overturn many of the Supreme Court decisions by expressing the idiotic, partisan ideals of the Reagan Administration--and failed. You tell him time after time and Messe still can’t seem to understand why kids are not allowed to read the Bible in classrooms.
Until Meese came along, it had always been my belief that the role of the Justice Department was to enforce laws, not to try to implement new ones.
And I hope the State Bar yanks his license to practice law in California--we already have enough sleaze-ball lawyers out here.
Meese’s departure from “public service” is good riddance to bad rubbish.
