Meese ‘Made a Difference’

I read with great interest the column on “Ed the Ordinary” making a difference. Indeed, Meese accomplished many of the things reported by McDowell. I would like to be more specific on what Meese accomplished in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles was without a Latino city councilman for 24 years, which was a disgrace! Only because of personal problems of former Councilman Art Snyder did Los Angeles voters have an opportunity to elect Councilman Richard Alatorre, who I think is doing a fine job. But it was only through the intercession of the Justice Department, which demanded that there be redistricting in Los Angeles, that Gloria Molina, who I know and admire and is also performing splendidly, was able to run successfully in a newly created, predominantly Hispanic district.

Now the Justice Department is pressuring our Board of Supervisors again to redistrict so that voters can have a fair chance to elect a Latino county supervisor, a first to my knowledge.

These things were all done with the full support of “Ed the Ordinary.” I ask my fellow Latino compatriots to ask more questions and demand fair treatment from those who profess to be our political friends.
