The NBA announced that it has met with officials of the Soviet Union about the possibility of allowing Soviets to play in the league.
Amid reports that the league is close to an agreement that would allow two Soviet players to join the NBA after the Olympics, NBA Commissioner David Stern will return to the United States this week after meeting with Soviet officials in Moscow.
The Atlanta Constitution reported Sunday that the NBA and Soviet sports officials are close to a deal that would allow center Arvidas Sabonis to play for the Portland Trail Blazers and guard Sharunas Marchulenis to play for the Atlanta Hawks.
