Carter Hawley Hale Stores, owner of the Broadway, said it has sold its one-third interest in a Santa Clara, Calif., shopping center for $32 million to Ernest W. Hahn Inc. and R. H. Macy & Co., its partners in the center. For the fourth quarter ended July 30, the Los Angeles-based retailer will record a pretax gain of $30 million from the sale of the mall, Valley Faire Shopping Center. The company also said it has set aside reserves in the quarter of about $25 million for costs connected with certain strategic programs and planned consolidations in its credit, freight and purchasing operations. A spokesman said no jobs would be lost as a result of those consolidations.
