SAN FRANCISCO — The state Supreme Court today upheld death sentences in two well-publicized Northern California murder cases, involving a Cambodian refugee woman in Sacramento who was kidnaped from a downtown parking lot, and three women and a girl who were killed in Shasta County.
The unanimous rulings in the cases of Steven Ainsworth, 43, of Pacifica and Darrell Rich, 33, of Redding are the eighth and ninth death penalty affirmances by the court in June, and bring the year’s total to 25, out of 30 capital appeals considered.
