Long Beach : 2 Alcoholic Outlets Denied

North Long Beach residents successfully argued this week against allowing two new gasoline station/mini-markets to sell alcoholic beverages.
The City Council on Tuesday denied petitions by Arco and Circle K Corp. Both were appealing denials by the Planning Commission, whose members agreed with residents that the two proposed outlets are surrounded by an excessive number of stores selling beer and wine.
About 80 people attended the council meeting to protest Arco’s petition to sell beer and wine at a proposed station at 6015 Long Beach Blvd. A handful remained to protest alcohol sales in a gasoline station and mini-market at 2698 E. South St.
Vice Mayor Warren Harwood, who represents the area, has consistently argued against any new liquor outlets in his district, saying there is a proliferation of them in the northern part of the city.
