Paradise Canyon School in La Canada has taken first place in the educational institution category of the national Take Pride in America competition sponsored by the U.S. Agriculture, Interior and Education departments.
The school was recognized for a project done with Angeles National Forest making fire prevention and anti-litter signs featuring Woodsy Owl and Smokey the Bear. The signs are enlargements of the children’s own artwork painted on large wooden signs that have been placed along Angeles Crest Highway.
The project was nominated for a statewide Take Pride in America award last year and won first prize for “outstanding stewardship of public and private lands.”
The goal of the nationwide Take Pride in America campaign is to encourage citizens to care about the land and natural resources.
