Darcy Arreola of Cal State Northridge placed fifth in the 2,000 meters at the Michelob Invitational track and field meet in San Diego on Saturday.
Arreola, the NCAA Division II champion in the 1,500 and 3,000, ran a personal-best 5 minutes, 52.33 seconds but faded from third to fifth in the final 200 meters.
Mary Slaney won in 5:36.65.
“It was her best race of the season,” Northridge Coach Don Strametz said of Arreola, who ran 4:38.8 for the first mile. “But she just ran out of gas in the last 200.”
