South Korea, which scored on 48.7% of its attempts, defeated the Cal Juniors, 15-6, 15-3, 15-2, in the final of an international volleyball tournament Saturday at the University of Notre Dame.
The Orange County-based Cal Juniors, who scored on only 5.8% of their attempts, were led by outside hitter Laurie Jones of Seal Beach with nine kills. Kristie Ryan of Huntington Beach added six.
The Cal Juniors finished the pool-play tournament at 4-1. South Korea finished 3-1, losing only to the Republic of China in a match Friday.
China was not allowed to play in Saturday’s medal round. Several of its players were ruled ineligible, as they had played on the Chinese Olympic team in 1984.
