Taco Bell Corp. has donated $250,000 toward the construction of the Irvine Theatre, a 750-seat multipurpose theater scheduled to be completed in the fall of 1990, company officials announced Thursday night.
Total cost of the theater, a joint venture by the city of Irvine, UC Irvine and the private sector, is estimated to be about $12.2 million.
The gift from Taco Bell, which is headquartered in Irvine, brings the building fund to about $1 million.
The city of Irvine has pledged $9.5 million.
The university has donated land at the front entrance of the campus on Campus Drive. Ground breaking is scheduled for this fall.
Previous gifts have included $500,000 from the Irvine Co. and $75,000 from private individuals.
