Sorry, Johnny, but Garry sends his regrets. What with his ongoing TV series (“It’s Garry Shandling’s Show”) and a movie starting production this summer (titled--surprise!--”It’s Garry Shandling’s Movie”), Garry Shandling “regrettably declined” an offer from Carson Productions to serve as a guest host for “The Tonight Show” next season. Said Shandling: “It’s ironic that the ‘Tonight Show,’ which helped launch my career, has helped put me in a position where I don’t have time to host it.”
