Boxer Brian Baronet, who died Friday from a brain injury after a fight in Johannesburg, South Africa, last week, was under suspension in the United States when he went into the ring, a newspaper said.
Baronet, 27, reportedly talked with slurred speech and fought sluggishly in his previous two fights, although he won both. After his last fight, the New Jersey State Athletic Commission suspended Baronet for 60 days and said he could not fight again until he had a complete medical checkup, including a brain scan. The suspension applied world-wide.
