Publisher Rupert Murdoch has proposed to put his Boston UHF television station in an independent trust to comply with government rules barring common ownership of a newspaper and TV station in the same city. Murdoch’s waiver allowing him to own WFXT-TV and the Boston Herald expires June 30, and although he won the right in court to request an extension of the waiver, Murdoch said he would sell the TV station. The media magnate, however, instead decided to avail himself of the trust option, which is allowed by the Federal Communications Commission as a method of complying with the cross-ownership rule.
