B&B; in Thirsk
Please recommend to readers a bed-and-breakfast place in James Herriot’s town of Thirsk, Yorkshire, England. It is Brook House, Ingram Gate, Thirsk. The proprietors are John and Margaret McLauchlan. It is their home, an old Victorian house away from the main road but a very short walk to the market square. It overlooks a pasture and scenic brook where all the townspeople walk their dogs.
I imagined more than once that Herriot was walking his dogs down through the pasture. We paid about $23 each for a double room and enjoyed Mrs. McLauchlan’s hospitality immensely.
