Briton Begins Attempt to Row Around World

GWEEK, England — A British man set off Friday in an attempt to become the first person to row solo around the world.
Geoff Cooper, 36, rowed away from this Cornish port in his 16-foot boat Water Rat I. He said he hopes to complete the 36,000-mile voyage in three years. In 1986, Cooper’s attempt ended after just 36 hours when he injured a wrist.
