Jackson, Dukakis and the Democrats
I have voted consistently Democratic and supported a party that I thought had the courage to defend its traditional commitments. But it now seems to fear the “special-interest” label (Part I, June 11). Ridiculous, the Republican Party defends its very narrow and extreme special interests! That’s what parties are for.
Reagan represented the rich, the “nutty” right-extremists, etc.
But if Dukakis thinks I’ll vote for him because he’s Dukakis and a Democrat, he’s deluded, and I hope others who have pinned their hopes on his loyalty to traditional Democratic values will also feel likewise.
