Nancy Reagan on a Wife’s Duty to Protect Her Husband

Hooray for Nancy Reagan! (“2 First Ladies Spend Last Day in a ‘Standoff’ ”, Part I, June 2.) Talk about putting things in perspective. The exchange between Mrs. Reagan and Raisa Gorbachev was hilarious. Here is a 64-year-old woman saying, “Now wait a minute, I want to say something” when Mrs. Gorbachev tried to shut her down. Only another woman of Nancy’s generation can enjoy the feistiness and courage of her behavior.
In our day we women were taught that when we reached 40, life was over. From then on we were to watch what we said, how we acted, and above all to never rock the boat by our behavior.
Now along comes Mrs. Reagan who not only took on Donald Regan, but also Raisa. More power to you Nancy, you are a wonderful role model for us older women who are trying to change the programming of the past.
