Romanian-born choreographer Alexander Schneider paid an unexpected visit to Maxine Mahon and her California Ballet Company this week, after spending a couple of weeks with his old friend Mikhail Baryshnikov and the American Ballet Theatre. This is Schneider’s first trip to the United States, but it might not be his last. “We’re talking about the possibility of having him come here to choreograph for us,” said Mahon. “He choreographs throughout Europe, and he’s very well known. But we showed him some of our tapes, and he’s definitely interested in our company. We arranged to have him meet with our board, and we’re talking about future opportunities.”
