San Dieguito’s Lougeay Named Volleyball Player of the Year

Stace Lougeay, who led San Dieguito High School to the first San Diego Section boys’ volleyball title, has been named section player of the year.
Lougeay will attend UC Santa Barbara on a volleyball scholarship.
Five of the six first-team members were from the Palomar League, which had four teams advance to the section semifinals.
Joining Lougeay is teammate Jeff Zevely. Poway placed Dave Delaney and Jason Jones. Blake Hunnicutt of Mt. Carmel and Woods Wheatcroft of La Jolla also were named to the first team. All first-team players are seniors.
The second team: Jim Nyenhuis (Helix, So.), Mike Sheffey (San Pasqual, Jr.), Jason Appel (Poway, Jr.), Mojtaba Shamloo (El Cajon Valley, Sr.), Aaron Boss (Lincoln, Sr.) and Jeff Homer (San Dieguito, Sr.).
HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS
Stormy Sexton, 70, whose girls’ and boys’ teams finished third in the Avocado League this year, will not coach at Rancho Buena Vista High next year.
Sexton was at Vista High from 1983 through 1987 and coached two section 3-A boys’ championship teams before resigning.
Sexton also coached at Oceanside and El Camino high schools.
PROFESSIONAL TENNIS
Monique Javer, who played tennis at San Diego State, will compete at Wimbledon June 20-July 3. Javer, who is from Great Britain, will play Silke Meier of West Germany in a first-round match.
Michael Chang, who played at San Dieguito High, will play a qualifier in the men’s tournament. Todd Nelson of San Diego drew Branislav Stankovic of Czechoslovakia for a first-round match.
