Chaney Hired to Take Over Bickering Rockets

Don Chaney, fired by the Clippers a year ago, signed a three-year contract Monday to coach the National Basketball Assn.’s Houston Rockets, and stressed he would have no trouble communicating with star center Akeem Olajuwon.
“To be honest, I’m tired of hearing all the negative talk about Akeem,” Chaney said. “You’ll have to ease up on him a little.”
Olajuwon criticized former coach Bill Fitch, who was fired June 6, and publicly criticized his teammates last season.
Chaney, 42, a former star at the University of Houston, spent last season as an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks.
