The 100th execution since capital punishment was reinstituted in 1976 was performed in the Louisiana electric chair in Angola early today. Edward R. Byrne Jr., 28, had admitted dating service station cashier Roberta Johnson because she handled large sums of money and admitted hitting her repeatedly with a hammer during a robbery but denied that he had intended to kill her.
