The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences handed out its 15th annual Student Film Awards at a ceremony Sunday night that featured actress Shelley Long, writer-director Oliver Stone and “Entertainment Tonight” film historian Leonard Maltin as presenters. Winning the academy’s highest student honors were James Richardson of Chicago’s Columbia College (for animation), Thomas Fleming and Daniel Marks of USC (documentary) and Thomas Wallin and Steve Wang from New York University (dramatic film). Other awards winners: Richard Quade (UCLA), Temah Nelson (Rhode Island School of Design), Suzanne Dimant (CalArts), John Behnke (Southern Illinois Univ., Carbondale) and Wolfgang Becker (the foreign award winner, from West Germany).
