Gene Snow of Fort Worth took advantage of a breakdown by top qualifier Darrell Gwynn of Miami and won the top fuel class of the $486,550 Winston All Stars drag races at the New Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga.
Snow earned $50,000 by racing the quarter-mile in 5.140 seconds with a top end speed of 282.13 m.p.h. He defeated Eddie Hill of Wichita Falls, Tex., in the final race. Hill turned in a time of 5.219 seconds at 278.73 m.p.h.
Snow, who had not won an event since the 1985 Fall Nationals in Phoenix, said, “It feels wonderful to win again.”
