Ex-Wright Aide Believed Work on Book Was Part of Job

WASHINGTON — A former aide to House Speaker Jim Wright was quoted today as saying he thought working on a book written by his boss was “part of my job” rather than the volunteer project described by Wright.
Matthew Cossolotto said, “I did think it was part of my congressional job. That was my understanding at the time, and I still think that.”
The statement by Cossolotto, published in the Ft. Worth (Tex.) Star-Telegram, contrasts with statements by Wright (D-Tex.), who said today that Cossolotto had volunteered and that the important thing was the aide gave full value for taxpayers’ dollars.
“It is common practice for people on the staff to help in preparation of articles, books and speeches,” Wright told reporters.
