Basic Rate led wire-to-wire in his Hollywood Park debut, beating Threegees by a length in the $36,000 feature race Thursday.
Ridden by Fernando Toro, the 3-year-old colt covered the 6 furlongs in 1:10 for his third victory in five starts. It was the second straight time that he had led for the entire race at that distance. Basic Rate paid $11.20, $4.80 and $4.80, and the winner’s share of $19,800 gave him total earnings of $45,820.
Threegees, with Martin Pedroza up, paid $5 and $3.80. Cesar Eduardo, with Alex Solis aboard, was four lengths back in third and paid $14.40.
