Singer-songwriter Laura Nyro, absent from the stage for a decade, is coming back . . . because she quit smoking, she says. “(Quitting smoking) has made my instrument very rich and stable,” Nyro told the New York Daily News. “Also, whenever you quit any addiction, your life is new again. You feel if you can free yourself that way, you can do almost anything.” Nyro, 41, said her summer tour is dedicated to the animal rights movement. She also plans to record an album for Columbia Records to add to her others, including “Wedding Bell Blues,” made famous by the Fifth Dimension.
