A 2-day-old girl born with most of her brain missing was admitted to Loma Linda Medical Center’s organ donor program for infants, spokesman Dick Schaefer said. The out-of-state baby identified only as Erin was declared brain-dead Saturday after being admitted to the hospital on Friday, Schaefer said. Erin suffered from a condition known as anencephaly, a fatal deformity in which most of the brain is missing at birth. Her parents had requested that she be admitted to Loma Linda as a potential donor, Schaefer said. Her liver and heart were unsuitable for donation, but heart valves and corneas were donated, he said.
