Although relieved that he wasn’t ordered to pay more, Boston Celtic rookie Brad Lohaus said he intends to appeal the $1,500 fine he was assessed for fighting in a playoff game.
Lohaus, a former University of Iowa player, was penalized by the NBA for his part in a fight last Friday with the Detroit Pistons’ Dennis Rodman in the Eastern Conference playoff finals.
Lohaus and Rodman tussled with 7:40 left in the fourth period at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich. The Pistons won, 95-90, and advanced to the NBA finals.
“Only $1,500? Great,” Lohaus said from his home in Boston. “I really thought it would be more than that.”
His Celtic teammates, including Larry Bird, told Lohaus to expect a fine of $5,000.
