18 Philippine Pirates Slain

MANILA — Militiamen killed 18 pirates in a two-hour sea battle off an island in the far south of the Philippines, the military said Tuesday. One militiaman was wounded in the clash Sunday off Sibago Island between a boatload of militia guards and pirates armed with machine guns and riding in speedboats.
