Local News in Brief : Sewer Rate Action Put Off

Los Angeles City Council members, a bit taken aback by word that the cost of sewer repairs has jumped by $1.1 billion, on Tuesday postponed a request by city officials to raise the sewer charge paid by residents.
Action on the sewer charge and a plan to place a revenue bond on the November ballot were held over at least two weeks and referred to committee for more discussion.
The city administrative officer informed the council that a major revamping of the city sewer system will cost $3.4 billion, not the $2.3 billion estimated two years ago.
