A Navy petty officer died about 1 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his car while going about 100 miles an hour near Interstate 15 and Balboa Avenue, struck a highway divider, rolled over and was thrown from the vehicle.
Officials declined to release the name of the 18-year-old driver until the Navy had notified his family.
The sailor was driving his 1984 Camaro south on I-15 when it hit the center divider, flipping the car over, officials said. He was ejected from the car and suffered massive head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
