Local News in Brief : West County : Educator to Chair United Way Council

Norma Brandel Gibbs, a Cal State Long Beach professor and resident of Huntington Beach, has been elected to chair the United Way of Orange County’s West Regional Council.
Gibbs is a founder of the Interval House for victims of domestic violence. In 1987, she was the recipient of Outstanding Citizen awards from the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce and in 1988 from Golden West College.
Carolyn Hunt, president of Ocean View School District and a Huntington Beach resident, will serve as vice chairwoman. Ray Houdyshell, a former principal in the Long Beach Unified School District and a director of the Garden Grove Day Care Center for Adults, was elected secretary.
