Danes Form New Government

COPENHAGEN — Prime Minister Poul Schluter today formed a new Conservative-led coalition government expected to lobby for changes in anti-nuclear policies that have jeopardized Denmark’s NATO membership, government sources said.
The sources said the new Cabinet, to be announced soon, will be composed of eight Conservatives, seven Liberals and five Radical Liberals. Last month, the Radical Liberals cast a pivotal vote in favor of a parliamentary resolution tightening anti-nuclear policies by calling for warship captains to be ordered to respect Denmark’s nuclear-free status in peacetime as well as in wartime. The new government is expected to rewrite the resolution in a manner acceptable to the United States and Britain.
