Voters in the wealthy Spanish region of Catalonia reelected a moderate nationalist government led by the Convergence and Union Party, which retained its majority in the 135-seat regional Parliament. With 61.5% of the ballots counted, the party of regional government President Jordi Pujol lost two seats and kept 70. Pujol’s party was winning 46% of the vote in the northeastern autonomous region. The Socialist Workers Party, which controls the national Parliament in Madrid, had 29.7% of the votes to retain its 41 seats.
