U.S. envoy Vernon A. Walters held talks with Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd in the Red Sea port city of Jidda on the ninth leg of a Middle East tour. Walters, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is visiting the region to exchange ideas on how to end the 7 1/2-year-old war between Iran and Iraq and other issues. The official Saudi Press Agency said he also met with Prince Saud al Faisal, the Saudi foreign minister, for talks on “matters of mutual concern and the situation in the Middle East.”
