Cold, windy, wet weather dominated the West, but skies were mostly clear east of the Mississippi River. In Nevada, winds gusted to 63 m.p.h. at Desert Rock. Brief, unseasonal snow and hail hit parched western Nevada, catching some springtime campers and gardeners by surprise. The National Weather Service in Reno said 6 to 10 inches of snow fell in the higher elevations of the Tahoe Basin and less than an inch in the basin. Tallahassee, Fla., reported a record low for the date of 51 degrees, besting 53 degrees set in 1968. Jacksonville, Fla., also set a record low with 53 degrees, breaking the record 58 set in 1934. The day’s highest temperature in the 48 adjacent states was 102 degrees in Glasgow, Mont., which also had the low of 27 degrees.
