Robert B. Egelston will become chairman of the board of California Institute of the Arts in Valencia on July 1, board trustees announced.
Egelston succeeds Jon B. Lovelace, chairman since 1983, who will continue to serve as a board member.
Egelston has been a CalArts trustee since 1976 and recently headed the institute’s search committee for a new president. He is chairman of the board of the Capital Trust Group, and vice chairman of Capital Research and Management Co. He serves on the boards of several cultural groups, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic Assn.
He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and holds a master’s degree in business administration.
Steven D. Lavine, who was chosen by Egelston’s committee to become CalArts president as of July 1, said Egelston would help the institute reach its potential “role in the art and life of Los Angeles and the nation.”
