Spanish-language TV station KVEA Channel 52 won its third Emmy award in 2 1/2 years, station officials announced. KVEA, the only local Spanish-language station to win an Emmy this year, won in the “Film/Tape Editor of Hard News Program” category for a special report edited by Fred Del Toro titled “Pandillas: Hermandad del Delito (Gangs: Brothers in Crime),” a study of gangs in Los Angeles different ethnic communities. The news segment aired in October on “Vea Noticias,” the station’s 6 p.m. news show.
