The University of Redlands held its 79th annual graduation ceremonies Saturday. Degrees were conferred on 250 students, including 16 who received master’s degrees.
Speaker: James Q. Wilson, government and political science professor at UCLA and Harvard University, said: “Higher education is an incomplete education, for it chiefly tends to shape the habits of the mind. Good character is formed, not through instruction or personal self-discovery, but through the regular repetition of right actions. These habits and actions generally take place in the family. The great benefit of college is not that it builds your character, the benefit is that it enlarges and stretches your mind and helps you to see the larger world beyond yourself more clearly and more fully.”
Other Graduations:
Biola University featured a speech by Sen. William L. Armstrong (R-Colo.) at its 80th commencement Saturday. Degrees were conferred on 421 students, including 157 who received master’s degrees.
