Hoover 10, San Marcos 9--Danny Carter and Gus Garcia each drove in four runs, and Felipe Preciado made a rare relief appearance, retiring the final four San Marcos batters as Hoover (19-9) won at home. Carter hit a 2-run home run as Hoover took a 10-5 lead after 5 innings. But Scott Ashby’s solo home made it 10-9 in the sixth before Preciado, Hoover’s top starter during the regular season, came in to record his first save. Hoover will meet No. 2-seeded Castle Park Thursday. San Marcos finished 13-10-2.

San Pasqual 7, Hilltop 2--Mike Escarcega had four hits, including a home run, and pitcher Kevin Herde keyed a four-run second-inning rally with a two-run single for San Pasqual (16-9). Herde pitched a seven-hitter. San Pasqual, which had three double plays, will meet No. 1-seeded Mission Bay Thursday. Hilltop finished 8-14.

La Jolla 1, Coronado 0--Brent Woodall allowed only one hit, and Sean Hecker hit a single to drive in Brad Raulston in the sixth as host La Jolla advanced to Thursday’s matchup at Carlsbad. Woodall (9-2) struck out 12 and walked 2, allowing a single to Rich Bledsoe on an 0-2 pitch with two out in the fourth. Coronado finished 16-10.

Mt. Carmel 15, Bonita Vista 4--Ron Kelly hit a 2-run home run to touch off a 10-run third-inning that carried host Mt. Carmel (21-10). After Kelly’s home run put Mt. Carmel ahead, 3-0, Marcus Lee, Joe Shootman, John Tejcek and Mark Van Aelstyn hit run-scoring doubles. Joe Brownholtz (10-1) pitched the first four innings to get the victory. Mt. Carmel, the defending 3-A champion, will meet No. 4-seeded Chula Vista Thursday at Mt. Carmel. Bonita Vista finished 17-11.

Granite Hills 6, Mira Mesa 4--Mike Raskind went the distance, striking out 14 to lead Granite Hills at Mira Mesa. Raskind also had a two-run double. Jeff Waymire went 2 for 4 with 2 runs batted in for Granite Hills (16-10), which will play Grossmont League champion Helix Thursday. Granite Hills has not beaten Helix in three tries this season. Raskind struck out the side in the seventh, but not before loading the bases twice and giving up a two-run single by Eric Sealley. Mira Mesa finished 17-9.

Grossmont 8, Sweetwater 3--Mike Rendina (8-2) hit his 10th home run of the season and pitched a 6-hitter for host Grossmont, which plays at Palomar League champion Poway Thursday. Roy Neder also hit a solo home run for Grossmont (18-9). Sweetwater finished 15-13-1.
