Local News in Brief : Democrats’ Debate Reset

A nationally televised debate in Torrance between Democratic presidential contenders Michael S. Dukakis and Jesse Jackson has been rescheduled for the afternoon of June 2 because of a conflict in campaign plans.
Janice Kaplan, spokeswoman for the League of Women Voters in Washington, said both candidates agreed to participate in the league-sponsored debate at 2 p.m. at El Camino College.
The debate was originally scheduled for June 5, the Sunday before the June 7 primary, but league officials said the date was changed because Dukakis was planning to campaign in New Jersey, which votes the same day as California.
