Gymnast Julissa Gomez was admitted to Methodist Hospital in Houston for treatment of a “very grave” spinal injury suffered May 5 at the World Sports Fair in Tokyo.
Hospital spokeswoman Brenda Blake refused to discuss Gomez’s condition because the 15-year-old’s parents requested privacy after she was flown by U.S. military transport from Japan.
Mike Jacki, executive director of the U.S. Gymnastics Federation in Indianapolis, said Gomez is in “extremely critical condition.”
