A 17-year-old Walnut youth was killed and his 15-year-old cousin critically injured Sunday when the car in which they were riding plunged over a 40-foot embankment near Diamond Bar and landed upside down, authorities said.
The boys apparently took off in the car while their relatives visited a house they had purchased at a new development, Los Angeles County firefighter David Barron said.
The car plowed down the embankment and landed on a partially built house’s concrete foundation, pinning Erwin Baldovino inside. He was dead at the scene and his cousin, believed to have been the driver, was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center in critical condition, Barron and investigators from the county coroner’s office said.
The injured boy’s name was not immediately available.
