Blue Cadillac Records is the fictional purveyor of mega-hits in Jackie Collins’ “Rock Star,” best-selling saga of the pop music world. Now producers Gene Kirkwood and John Hyde, who spent more than a million bucks for rights, tell us they’re about to launch their own Blue Cadillac Record Co. with a major label that they wouldn’t name.
Plans call for a triple sound-track album, plus several singles--including newly created “golden oldies” from the ‘60s and ‘70s segments of the picture--all of which could be in release ahead of the film. The producers want to get their Cinecorp Production pic rolling in time for a summer ’89 release, but it’s strike-stalled, with no script.
“We’re going backwards,” said Kirkwood. “We’re doing the record deal first.”
Unknowns will probably be star-searched to perform the music, the producers said. And Collins “has major participation in the profits,” according to Hyde.
