Kinchen Wins Decision Over Hernandez in 10

SAN DIEGO — James Kinchen, the World Boxing Association’s fifth-ranked super-middleweight contender, won a unanimous 10-round decision over former Mexican light-heavyweight champion Juan Hernandez at the El Cortez Hotel Thursday night.
Kinchen, of San Diego, raised his record to 44-4-2 with 32 knockouts. Hernandez, of Ensenada, Mexico, fell to 22-7 with 15 knockouts.
Kinchen floored Hernandez with a right hand early in the first round and dominated the rest of the fight. Judge Danny Milsap scored the bout 100-89 in favor of Kinchen; judge Hal Rickards also scored it 100-89, and judge Pat Russell scored it 98-91.
Both fighters weighed 173 3/4 pounds.
