Rep. Joseph Kennedy (D-Mass.) plans to seek a second term in the congressional seat once held by his uncle, John F. Kennedy, to continue working on “basic domestic issues,” especially housing, aides said Thursday in Boston.
Kennedy, 35, will make a formal announcement Saturday in suburban Arlington, Mass., aides said. He will be joined by his family, including his mother, Ethel Kennedy.
“He’s enjoyed being a congressman, felt he was productive in his first term and feels he has a lot of work to continue,” said Paul Davis, Kennedy’s district director for Massachusetts. “He wants to continue a lot of work on basic domestic issues--housing in particular.”
Kennedy is the son of slain presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, and nephew of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) and the late President Kennedy.
Kennedy won the 8th District seat in 1986 after the retirement of House Speaker Thomas P. (Tip) O’Neill Jr., who was elected to represent that district in 1952 when John Kennedy was elected to the Senate.
