Canyons, Cerritos Open JC Playoffs

College of the Canyons will play Cerritos at 2:30 this afternoon in the opening game of a four-team regional in the state junior college baseball playoffs.
Canyons (32-6) has not played since sweeping Oxnard in a best-of-three series for the Western State Conference title May 5-7.
Cerritos (34-11), the tournament host, defeated Chaffey and Southwestern in preliminary-round games last week to advance to the regional playoffs.
The winner will play either El Camino (29-14) or Cypress (32-9) at noon Saturday.
Left-hander Tim Nedin (12-1) will start for Canyons. If Canyons loses today, it will play at 9 a.m. Saturday in the second round of the double-elimination tournament.
