Cal Lutheran Breaks New Ground in NAIA Playoffs
- Share via
Members of the Cal Lutheran softball team are not sure what they have brought upon themselves, but they do know that they are happy about it.
For the first time, the Regals have qualified for the 16-team National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics tournament that begins today at the Amateur Softball Assn. Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
The ninth-seeded Regals will play eighth-seeded Minnesota-Duluth at 9:30 this morning.
“This is all new to us, so I don’t really know what the competition is going to be like,” Coach Wendy Olson said.
The round of 16 is as far as any Cal Lutheran women’s team has advanced.
“When you only have 1,500 students like we do at CLU,” Olson said, “everybody’s rooting for us.”
